Green Lancaster was Highly Commended at the recent Lancaster Community Recycling Network’s Red Rose Resource Awards for the exceptionally successful Exodus project.
The prize for runner up in the Best New Project category was awarded at a celebratory networking breakfast and awards presentation at Lancashire Environment Education Centre opened by Cllr Mike Otter.

The Exodus project ran at Lancaster University from June until September 2011 and was designed to work with local charities to divert quality items from landfill at the end of academic year. The project was facilitated by 10 members of student staff and resulted in over 25 tonnes of donations of books, DVD, CDs and household items being collected from campus residences and LUSU Living properties.
Receiving the award has been a real boost for the project and credits all the hard work put in by the staff team this year
Darren Axe, Green Lancaster Coordinator
One of Green Lancaster’s charity partners; St Vincent de Paul Society, spread donated goods around a wide variety of other charities and people in need, ranging from the Lancaster District Homeless Action Service to Animal Care. They also worked with families on low incomes, providing them with free household items
2000 books and CDs which were collected will be sold online to help fund further Green Lancaster initiatives, including running the project again next summer.
The Exodus project has had a fantastic and successful year. Darren and his brilliant team of students have worked tirelessly and deserve this recognition for their outstanding contribution to the Lancaster University community
George Gardiner, LUSU President
