The Orchard

The Orchard Project is an exciting campus based project working to develop a community orchard. Tasks involve tree and shrub maintenance and planting, path laying and general upkeep and maintenance of the site.

The longer term aim is to create an outdoor educational area within the orchard, maybe including willow tunnels, a glass house and a pond; where students, staff and visitors can enjoy a break from the fast pace of campus life. The environmental improvement work will also provide for a better habitat for native wildlife.

Volunteer Role
  • Maintain trees, shrubs and pathways at the orchard
  • Get involved in planning and developing an outdoor educational area for children, students and staff
Commitments
  • Attend all induction and training events
  • Project runs every Wednesday afternoon, but there is no set commitment
  • Please dress appropriately for outdoor work (Personal Protective Equipment and tools provided)
  • Attend end of year plenary session
Impacts
  • Help to maintain the University Community Orchard, a shared outdoor space designed for relaxation and enjoyment
  • Improve the biodiversity of Campus and improve habitats for insects, animals and plants
