The Chickens

last updated by Alexander on Mon 16th Jan 2012

Cock-a-doodle-do! Green Lancaster has a lovely chicken coop currently housing 6 chickens on campus. You can join Phil, the lead volunteer and get involved with the feeding, watering and cleaning of Green Lancaster’s chickens. Most of the chickens have been rescued from a battery farm, but now enjoy the freedom of our state of the art Eglu coop and surrounding area.

The Chickens on campus allow students to gain new skills whilst also learning about sustainable and ethical food production and the benefits of local food. Green Lancaster utilises the droppings from the hens as a fertilizer within The Organic Garden and The Campus Orchard, integrating all of the aspects of Green Lancaster’s work and enhancing its sustainability.
