Exodus Re-Use Project

last updated by Jonny on Mon 17th Oct 2011

Wondering what you’re going to do with all that unwanted (but good) stuff when you move out? During residence clear-out periods, there are always many unwanted items, ranging from CD players to drawers full of cutlery. These items could find a welcome home somewhere else in the Lancaster district and through Exodus, we hope to do just that. To implement the project, we will be working with a number of local charities and the Lancashire Community Recycling Network.

Last year we collected over 25 tonnes of reusable items from campus residences and LUSU Living properties. This directly benefited local charities including Lancaster Homeless Action, St John’s Hospice and Animal Care. These donations also resulted in a saving of 190 tonnes equivalent in CO2 emissions. Over 2000 books, CDs and DVDs were donated, which will be sold to help fund the project again next year and expand it’s scope.

Exodus also provides flexible work opportunities for students, with over 600 hours of paid work offered to 10 student staff in 2011. Look out for more information in the Summer Term if you want to get involved!
